Laser Skin Cancer Therapy

2 in 3 skin cancers can be treated NON SURGICALLY using a modern Laser technology. The result is cosmetically satisfying and avoids the hazzle of having a surgery.

Laser denotes a new technology and precision. The advantage of Laser technology is that it can precisely ablate, “burn”, the skin cancer without the undue damage to healthy skin.

Let’s have a look at this example.
If you had to surgically remove the skin cancer from this lady’s nose, it would have been a very complex surgery. However, in certain less aggressive skin cancers, laser skin therapy allows the doctor to treat the skin cancer without the surgery.

The cosmetic outcome following a Laser skin cancer therapy is generally superior. The morbidity, such as taking time off work, the chance of infections and suffering from unsightly scar are much less.

Laser technology can be applied in 2/3 of the skin cancer cases. They can only be used for those skin cancers that are minimally invasive. These are:

  • Basal Cell Carcinoma – superficial and nodular types;
  • Squamous Cell carcinoma – in situ.
Laser skin cancer therapy cannot be applied for:
  • Melanomas,
  • Basal cell carcinoma – infiltrative or morphoeic type;
  • Squamous Cell carcinoma – infiltrative or poorly differentiated types; and
  • other types of skin cancers such as Merkel Cell Carcinomas.
