After 2.5 years of our specialized laser melasma treatment using advanced skin-whitening techniques, this patient has achieved outstanding results! Her skin has significantly improved, and we believe this is as good as it gets. She can now transition to maintenance treatments just 3-4 times a year to keep the results.
One of the biggest challenges in treating melasma is the time and patience required to achieve noticeable skin lightening. But with perseverance and the right approach, excellent outcomes are possible.

One of the most common questions about melasma treatment is: How long does it take to see good results?
The time required varies based on skin type and the severity of melasma:
👉 For some, it may take a year of treatment.
👉 For others, it can take 2-3 years of consistent care.
Even after melasma is under control, maintenance treatment is crucial to prevent recurrence. Without it, melasma can come back.
For this particular patient, the treatment took around 18 months to achieve great results. She is now returning for maintenance sessions 4 times a year to maintain her glowing, even-toned skin.

☀️ Melasma Well Controlled Despite Summer Challenges
Melasma can be difficult to treat, especially with hot weather and summer approaching, but this patient’s melasma is well-controlled thanks to consistent care.
👉 Regular laser maintenance treatments are essential to keeping melasma under control, preventing recurrence, and maintaining an even skin tone.
If you’re managing melasma, don’t let the season set you back—stay consistent with your treatments for the best results! 😊

Q: What is Laser Whitening Technique?

Q: What is laser melasma treatment?
A: Laser melasma treatment is a procedure that uses laser technology and laser whitening technique to target and reduce the appearance of melasma, which is a common skin condition that causes brown or gray patches on the face.
Q: How does laser melasma treatment work?
A: Dr. Kim will choose the appropriate laser and adjust the settings to target the pigments in your skin at different depths.
This is important because the pigments are usually located at varying depths in the skin. The success of the laser treatment depends on how well it is done by the operator.
Q: Is laser melasma treatment painful?
A: The procedure is generally well-tolerated, but some individuals may experience mild discomfort or a sensation similar to the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. Topical numbing creams are applied prior to the treatment to minimise any potential discomfort.
Q: How long does it take to see the results?
A: It varies but usually after 4 sessions, you will see the skin whitening effect.
Q: How many laser melasma treatment sessions are needed?
A: The number of sessions required can vary depending on the severity of the melasma and individual response to the treatment. Typically, multiple sessions are recommended for optimal results and in some difficult cases treatment may be required over many years.
Q: Are there any side effects of laser melasma treatment?
A: Common side effects may include temporary redness, swelling, or mild skin irritation in the treated area. These effects usually subside within a few days to a week. It is important to protect the treated skin from sun exposure and follow post-treatment care instructions to minimise the risk of complications.
Other important complications are hypopigmentation, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and acne break outs.
Q: How long do the results of laser melasma treatment last?
A: The results of laser melasma treatment can vary from person to person. While the treatment can significantly reduce the appearance of melasma, it’s important to follow a proper skincare routine and take precautions to prevent sun exposure, as melasma may reappear if not properly managed.
A regular maintainence treatment is also highly recommended to prevent recurrences.
Q: How many treatments do I need?
It depends on your skin type, skin condition, and sensitivity to Laser. Generally speaking, if you have a very dark skin that tans very easily, more treatment is required. Treatment of melasma may take years to improve whereas treatment of freckles may take only few sessions.
Most people will start seeing results usually after 4 treatments. A good result is about 60-70% improvement and this will take around 8 -12 treatment sessions. For even better result, more treatments are needed. However, there is a signficant individual variations.
Some people may require additional treatments as some skin conditions (such as melasma/ABNOM) and those with sensitive skins may take a longer time to respond.
Q: Can laser melasma treatment be combined with other treatments?
A: In some cases, laser melasma treatment may be combined with other treatments, such as topical creams or chemical peels, to enhance the results. Anti wrinkle injections can be administered concurrently. Dr Kim will assess your specific condition and recommend the most suitable combination of treatments, if necessary.
