FAQ: Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Q: What is laser skin rejuvenation?

A: Laser skin rejuvenation is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses laser technology to improve the appearance and texture of the skin. It helps to reduce wrinkles, fine lines, scars, and other signs of aging, while promoting collagen production and overall skin rejuvenation.

Q: What is Laser Whitening Technique?

The “laser whitening” or “whitening laser” is a technique developed by Dr Peter Kim to produce clearer, brighter, cleaner and younger-looking skin in middle-aged Asians and Ethic Skins.

Dr Kim chooses several colours of lasers and laser parameters to target remove the unwanted pigments from the entire thickness of your skin. This produces “whitening” effect. Whitening is the word used to mean clarity and clean looking skin, not Michael Jackson white.

We specialise in the laser treatment of darker skin types (Type 4 skin) which includes Asian, Brown & Ethnic skin types, as shown in our before and after photos. Our technique works in all skin types including Europeans.

Q: How many treatments do I need?

It depends on your skin type, skin condition, and sensitivity to Laser. Generally speaking, if you have a very dark skin that tans very easily, more treatment is required. Treatment of melasma may take years to improve whereas treatment of freckles may take only few sessions.

Most people will start seeing results usually after 4 treatments. A good result is about 60-70% improvement and this will take around 8 -12 treatment sessions. For even better result, more treatments are needed. There is a signficant individual variations.

Some people may require additional treatments as some skin conditions (such as melasma/ABNOM) and those with sensitive skins may take a longer time to respond.

All laser treatments are temporary. Most of the spots will come back once you stop the laser treament. For this reason, maintenance treatments are required and recommended.

Q: What skin concerns can laser skin rejuvenation address?

A: Laser treatments can effectively treat a range of skin concerns, including wrinkles, fine lines, sun damage, age spots, acne scars, uneven skin tone, and texture irregularities. It can also help to tighten loose skin and reduce the appearance of pores. They are not part of Laser Whitening treatment though.

We have a separate lasers for:

  • Laser melasma treatment (treat melasma)
  • Laser frecklet removal (treat freckles)
  • Laser skin tightening (for firmer skin)
  • Laser acne treatment (treat acnes)
  • Laser mole removal (treat moles and warts)
  • Fine wrinkle mesotherapy (treat fine wrinkles and replenishes moisture)

You can find more information on these procedures in this website.

The best option is to come in for a complementary consultation and Dr Kim will guide you as to how to rejuvenate your skin.

Q: Is laser skin rejuvenation safe?

A: Yes, laser skin rejuvenation is generally considered safe when performed by a trained and experienced professional. However, it is important to follow pre- and post-treatment instructions provided by the practitioner to minimise any potential risks or side effects.

Three side effects that you need to be aware are:

  • post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
  • acne break out.
  • hypopigmentation.

Most patients dont have any complications and if they do occur they are self limiting. Dr Kim will advice you on how to prevent them and how to treat them, if they occur.

Q: Does laser skin rejuvenation require downtime?

A: There is usually no downtime.

Some treatments may require minimal downtime with temporary redness or mild swelling, while more aggressive treatments may involve longer recovery periods.

Q: How many sessions are typically needed for optimal results?

A: The number of sessions required for optimal results can vary depending on the individual’s skin condition and treatment goals.

Our standard treatment course is 8 sessions over 3-4 months. After 8 sessions, there is usually 60-70% improvement which correlates to 90% patient sastisfaction.

Some patients need more sessions, and this varies on a case-by-case basis.

Q: Is laser skin rejuvenation painful?

A: Laser skin rejuvenation is generally well-tolerated, with most individuals experiencing minimal discomfort during the procedure. The sensation can be described as a slight tingling or snapping feeling on the skin.

We routinely apply topical anesthesia to enhance comfort during the treatment.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: $350 for one laser skin whitening session. You will generally need 4-8 sessions.
