2025 Minor Operation Audit Summary
Our clinic undertakes a high volume of minor skin surgery procedures each year.
In 2025, a substantial number of minor skin operations were performed, with all excised lesions routinely submitted for histopathological examination. Clinical outcomes are regularly reviewed as part of an ongoing practice audit and quality improvement process.
As part of routine clinical governance activities, the practice reviewed histopathology outcomes from all minor surgical procedures performed during 2025 (n = 1,200+ specimens). This audit was conducted for quality improvement purposes and not for comparison with other practitioners or services.
Audit findings demonstrate that commonly performed procedures include the removal of benign cystic lesions, lipomas, and genital warts. A significant number of warts affecting the fingers and feet were also treated, as well as excision of skin cancers and other benign skin lesions. Procedures are typically performed under local anaesthesia in our treatment rooms on the same day as the consultation, with scheduling tailored to individual clinical indications and patient circumstances.
As with all minor surgical procedures, complications can occur. In our audit, complications were uncommon and included minor issues such as infection, haematoma, or seroma formation, occurring in around 1.5% of cases. Most patients were satisfied with the visibility of the scar. All complications were managed within the practice in accordance with standard clinical care.
Ongoing review of histopathology results and clinical outcomes supports continuous improvement in patient care, informed consent processes, and follow-up planning, and helps ensure that practice remains evidence-based and aligned with Australian professional standards.
