hairdresser spotted a melanoma on his/her scalp

A few times a year, I get a patient referral from local hairdressers. The scalp is one of the last places we think about when it comes to skin cancer, and it is not readily visible due to hair coverage. But scalp skin is like skin from any other part of the body is prone to develop skin cancers.

This is a story of a hairdresser spotting and alerting melanoma on the scalp of Queensland Health Minister Yvette D’Ath. She sought medical opinion and the melanoma was detected early and treated successfully.

Early detection saves lives.
